In the lead up to D-Day during the Second World War, Allied forces fortunately avoided two periods of bad weather, either of which would have likely thwarted the Normandy landings and resulted in a military disaster. If the D Day landing had failed, it is likely that either the Soviet Union would have conquered as far as the English Channel, or an atomic bomb would have been deployed in the European theatre.
