The period of Roman rule know as the era of the ‘Five Good Emperors’; Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius, was first coined by Niccolò Machiavelli in 1503, and continues to be commonly employed to this day. Such a term is outdated however, as these emperors were not all good nor particularly successful. What do you think?
