Idealists may wish for a day when warfare is at an end. They overlook, however, the inveterate characteristic of humankind, that is, to be warlike. This is demonstrated by the myriad wars over the centuries and in more prosaic examples by the fact that every drama, be it a play, book or Hollywood blockbuster, must have as its central characteristic conflict, otherwise the public will have no interest in it.
