George Herbert, the fifth Earl of Carnarvon was an amateur Egyptologist who financed the expedition of Howard Carter which discovered the tomb of Tutenkamun in February 1923. Two months later Lord Carnarvon died in Cairo from blood poisoning and pneumonia brought on by an infected mosquito bite.
