German astronomer and discoverer of the laws of planetary motion. A protestant, he drew the ire of Archduke Ferdinand and left for Prague in 1600 to join Tycho Brahe, the celebrated Danish astronomer. The system he formulated became known as ‘Kepler’s Laws’ and paved the way for Newton’s discovery of universal gravitation.
