Greek philosopher. He taught rhetoric in Athens and later became chief councilor to Queen Zenobia, for which Emperor Aurelian had him beheaded. He is often credited as the author of the treatise, ‘On The Sublime’, which influenced many neo-classical writers such as Dryden and Pope.
