In English folk-lore and literature a celebrated outlaw, who dwelt in Sherwood Forest. He is first mentioned in 1377 in Piers Plowman. Later on poems, stories and ballads concerning him are common. A Lytell Geste of Robyn Hode (1510) was a collection of earlier stories and set the standard of future tales of Robin Hood.
